Vehicles

Support Unit 2 A 31 foot RV that has been converted to a communications vehicle with two desktop computers with mapping software, a multifunction printer/scanner/copier, kitchen, bathroom, VHF radios, cellular phone. Can function as a communications relay or remote site station. Also used as a field rehab unit.

Support Unit 1: a four wheel drive GMC Yukon that has been outfitted to deploy a search team. The vehicle can carry a team of seven to the search and be used as base command for the team. Equipped with a dual band VHF radio and a cellular phone. This vehicle was provided to NEMSAR by Toyota Scion of Clifton Park.

Two 4-wheeldrive ATVs and a 16 foot box trailer to transport the ATVs.


Additional Communications Equipment

Eight amateur portable handhelds and six portable VHF handhelds are available. All VHF radios have 155.160 MHz. There is also a communications tent with additional VHF equipment, cellular phone, and a 12-volt deep-cycle battery.

**NEW 2010** 3G Wireless Internet Hotspot with Verizon. Can provide wireless internet service to computers in the vicinity of the hotspot as long as Verizon cellular coverage is available in the area. This equipment has external antennas mounted on Support Unit 2 to raise the cell coverage area, and the size of the usable internet hotspot.


Medical Equipment

One stretcher, backboards, stokes basket, an EMT level medical bag, and an AED.


Technical Rescue

Three 300 foot static ropes with rope bags, carabiners, and technical ascending/descending equipment for high angle rescue.


Water Rescue & Recovery

10 PFDs with personal strobes and throw bags.


General Inventory

A 10x20 foot portable shelter with walls, 3 GPS units, 6 Q-Beam search lights, ancillary portable lighting, five pairs of snowshoes and crampons, a laptop computer and portable printer equipped with topographic maps of all of New York and some of western Vermont. Some members complement gear with their personal radios, medical bags, boats, technical rescue equipment, snow shoes, cross country skis, etc.


Skills

Members are DEC certified and will provide both ground and hasty search, search management overhead team, and communications. Some members have attended training on NASAR's MSF, NIMS training, CPR/AED, Wilderness First Aid, SAR Tech II, SEMO Incident Command instruction, Cave Rescue, High/Low Angle Rescue, Ice Rescue, Public Safety Critical Incident Management, and FEMA's Emergency Preparedness courses.

Our Coverage Area

NEMSAR's primary service area includes New York, New England, Pennsylvania, and Southern Canada, but we will serve anywhere if requested. We are on call 24 hours a day.
